Nick Knowles has been flown back to the UK after being injured while filming for the BBC in northern Kenya.
The presenter, who was making new factual series Mission Africa, fell off a Land Rover and dislocated his shoulder on Wednesday. He was initially taken to a private hospital in Nairobi before returning to the UK for further treatment.
"I fell off the top of a truck. I knocked myself out and dislocated my shoulder. I've basically separated my collar bone from my shoulder," he told BBC One's City Hospital. "We were 400 miles north of Nairobi in the middle of nowhere and they managed to get a small plane into a landing strip and take me out.
"The plane hit loads of turbulence and with my dislocated shoulder it was quite painful! The plane suddenly dropped and thumped and it actually re-located my shoulder, which made my eyes water a bit. I had a set of x-rays taken in Nairobi hospital, where they immunised me before I got on a plane to come back to England."
Knowles is expected to have an emergency operation today to repair damage between his collar bone and shoulder blade.
He added: "I'm in the middle of filming Mission Africa, so I'm hoping to be back on a plane on Tuesday!"
Mission Africa follows fifteen young apprentices as they are transferred to northern Kenya and challenged to repair water supplies and construct an eco lodge.
