Dame Helen Mirren wishes to end her successful film and television career in order to concentrate on theatre work.
She told The Sun yesterday: "Maybe all I will do for the rest of my career is stage. We’ll see. I feel that it can never be as good again as this year."
Mirren recently scooped the Best Actress award at the Venice Film Festival for her portrayal of HM Elizabeth II in The Queen, which snatched second place at the UK Box Office last weekend. Her role as Elizabeth I in the eponymous Channel 4 drama also led to an Emmy Award earlier this year.
"Elizabeth was the pinnacle of everything for me," she added. "And then doing The Queen and then Prime Suspect in one year. It’s been an absolutely amazing year."
