Gordon Ramsay's series The F Word has been re-commissioned for an hour-long Christmas special and a third eight-part series in the spring, Channel 4 has confirmed today.
The second series proved a success for Channel 4 this summer, pulling an average weekly audience of 3.8m, peaking at 4.5m, and frequently beating ITV1 and BBC1 in its Wednesday 9pm slot.
However the show, produced by Optomen Television, has received complaints for featuring graphic footage of the slaughter of animals that have been reared in Ramsay's own garden by him and his family.
Last year it showed the electrocution of two turkeys, with the second series featuring the killing of two fattened pigs called Trinny and Susannah, served up by Ramsay for diners on the final show.
Sue Murphy, Channel 4 head of features, said: "Gordon Ramsay's F Word works on a lot of levels and is a hugely important show for us. It's a big, entertaining format with bags of attitude, strong factual content and a huge star at its heart. What's not to like?"
Patricia Llewellyn, executive producer of the series said: "Gordon is a brilliant chef who's as passionate about entertaining people as he is about cooking.
"We're looking forward to serving up more generous portions of his fresh, edgy and accessible approach to food."
