Jack Whitehall's new BBC Three sitcom has been tipped to become as popular as The Office or Gavin & Stacey.

The Fresh Meat comedian stars as "the worst teacher ever to grace the British education system" in Bad Education, which he has also written.

"Jack has written a very funny series and everyone is terribly excited about it," a source told The Sun. "It could be as big as The Office and Gavin & Stacey."

Bad Education also stars Him & Her actress Sarah Solemani, Michelle Gomez of Green Wing and Mathew Horne, who appeared in Gavin & Stacey.

Details of the show first came to light in November 2011.

Whitehall is also preparing for a second series of Fresh Meat, ordered by Channel 4 last October.
