Series creator Adrian Poynton confirmed the cancellation to The British Comedy Guide, claiming that BBC Three "wants to take its comedy output in another direction".
"It's a strange place to find ourselves really," he said. "We honestly believe we made a second series bigger, bolder and stronger than series one and audience reaction seemed to back that up.
"The final episode of the series is a great way to end the show, although I did have a few more stories I wanted to tell... and a few final things to wrap up for the regular viewers."
Earlier this year, Will Mellor told Digital Spy that he was expecting a third series of White Van Man to be commissioned.
"We're already story-lining [series three] so we're definitely heading towards that," he said in February.
A US remake of the show - starring Kyle Bornheimer, JK Simmons and Leah Remini - is currently in development at ABC.
