The Apprentice, however, maintained consistent week-on-week (only slightly dropping from 6.1m the previous Wednesday) despite tougher competition last night in its timeslot.
Britain Got Talent's main show recovered from its slump on Tuesday (May 8) by logging in 8.97m (37.6%) from 7.30pm and 206k (0.8%) on timeshift.
Earlier on BBC One, Traffic Cops managed 3.22m (13.1%).
BBC Two showed Antiques Uncovered (1.29m/5.3%) and This World (1.06m/4.1%). Apprentice spinoff You're Fired! appealed to 2.33m (11.3%).
Foxes Live: Wild in the City continued with 924k (3.8%) for Channel 4 (+1: 112k/0.4%). Edward VIII: The Plot to Topple a King was watched by 1.54m (5.9%) afterwards (+1: 165k/0.9%).
Channel 5's Europa League live football coverage attracted 1.35m (5.7%) from 7pm.
Overall, ITV1 won primetime with 23.1% (+1: 0.9%) ahead of BBC One's 17.9%. BBC Two came third with 6.4%, while Channel 5's 5.6% (+1: 0.1%) meant that it beat Channel 4, which had 4.1% (+1: 0.5%) for the second consecutive night.
On the multichannels, Britain's Got More Talent drew 626k (3.4%) on ITV2, the Justified episode 'The Man Behind the Curtain' grabbed 121k (0.5%) on 5USA and Archer entertained 44k (0.2%) on 5*.
