The comedian confirmed his departure from the ITV2 series last month, after he had appeared on the comedy gameshow since 2009.
Hound hinted that he didn't consider himself as funny as others who had appeared on the show, and was looking for a different project.
"I've never had a cross word with Leigh," he is quoted as saying in The Sun.
"But if you can't play as part of a team, you shouldn't be there. I think how hard people laugh at Terry Alderton, Michael McIntyre and Milton Jones and I'm aware of how far I am from that."
He added: "Funny is funny. And if the act makes you laugh, they've earned the money. But I lost my way and needed to do something I could find more joy in."
Hound will next be seen on stage in Utopia at the Soho Theatre in London.
He recently described Digital Spy forum users as "f**king morons".
