Euro 2012: BBC winning match-up with ITV, say Digital Spy readers

By
The BBC's coverage of Euro 2012 has been overwhelmingly backed by Digital Spy readers in its match-up with ITV.

Gary Lineker has anchored the BBC's footage of the Poland and Ukraine championship from Salford and a huge 81.4% said that they preferred the BBC's presentation to ITV1's in a DS poll, taken by nearly 10,000 readers.

Adrian Chiles has been hosting ITV1's coverage alongside Patrick Vieira, Roy Keane, Jamie Carragher, Roberto Martinez, Gordon Strachan and regular ITV football lineup Gareth Southgate and Andy Townsend.

One Digital Spy reader who backed the BBC said: "You can't beat Lineker, Hansen or Lawro. Shearer's a good bloke too."

Another fan added: "During the World Cup, I would have said ITV for sure, but BBC are far better and more interesting in the Euros. The pundits are far superior at the BBC than ITV, although Adrian Chiles can be funny at times."

The BBC picked up an average audience of 10.96m for England's match with Sweden on Friday night (June 15), while ITV's coverage of England v France (June 11) picked up 8.9m.

England's final group game with Ukraine airs on ITV tomorrow night (June 19).
