'Planet Earth' boss criticises Steve Irwin

The producer of BBC nature programme Planet Earth has labelled the late Steve Irwin a "showman".

In an interview with the Radio Times, Alastair Fothergill revealed that he's "not interested in human stars, only in animal stars".

Fothergill conceded that "[Irwin] introduced a lot of people to natural history," but "his basic stock in trade was ‘aren’t I brave, and animals dangerous?'"

A BBC spokeswoman quoted in The Sun tried to distance the corporation from Fothergill's feelings, stressing that "these are Alastair’s personal views".
