The Stoke City striker's project will be entitled On the Couch with Peter Crouch, according to The Sun. Beady Eye frontman Liam Gallagher is rumoured to be appearing on the pilot.
"Peter is a smart guy and takes on the role of a chatshow host well," a source said. "He has a long list of people who he considers heroes, in comedy, music, food, you name it.
"The idea is he will go and visit people at their homes or workplaces and chat to them in a quirky way. It's more Ruby Wax than Michael Parkinson as it's supposed to be more of an entertainment show."
The insider also praised Crouch's "good command of the English language" and listening skills, saying that they are "vital ingredients for this kind of show" and "not something many footballers have".
Filming is tipped to begin within the next few days to take advantage of the football close season.
Crouch scored 10 goals in 32 appearances for Stoke City last season and was named the club's player of the year at an end-of-season awards dinner.
