'Extras' dominates Comedy Awards noms
The nominees for the 2006 British Comedy Awards 2006 have been announced, with Extras reaping four nominations.

The BBC2 show will square up against Peep Show and The Thick Of It for the Best TV Comedy of 2006 - with last year's winnerLittle Britain conspicuously ignored in this category. The Matt Lucas/David Walliams sketch show has some consolation by being in contention for the People's Choice Award instead.

Extras stars Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant will both vie for the Best TV Comedy Actor, alongside Peep Show's David Mitchell and Robert Webb.
The Best Female Comedy Actress category is a three-way race between Catherine Tate, Green Wing's Tamsin Greig and The It Crowd's Katherine Parkinson.

Perennial awards show favourites Ant & Dec are also in the running to dominate proceedings with three nominations - including a joint one for Best Comedy Entertainment Personality. They face hot competition from Harry Hill in that category, with his popular TV Burp show also in contention for Best Comedy Entertainment Programme.

Charlotte Church also secured a solitary nomination for Best Female Comedy Newcomer, despite the critical mauling directed towards her eponymous chat show.

The British Comedy Awards 2006 will take place on Wednesday 13th December and be screened live on ITV1 and ITV2. Jonathan Ross will once again host the event.
