Caroline Ahern's The Royles have been voted Britain’s favourite television family.
The characters, led by Jim and Barbara, or Ricky Tomlinson and Sue Johnston, were the focus of BBC hit The Royle Family. They won the support of 25 per cent of the viewing public.
Classic favourites the Trotters, of Only Fools and Horses fame, came second in the survey of 3,000 television fans, while cartoon jokers The Simpsons were third.
Sharon and Ozzy, coming in at fourth, demonstrated a genuine family can be loved as much as the fictional creations.
The survey also revealed that more than half of Britons eat dinner while watching the television at least once a week, while 40 per cent said they always eat with their families.
