"Just did first half of first scene of Peep Show series 8. Basically feel I was put on this good Earth to play Jeremy Usbourne," he tweeted.

Webb stated that the new series is likely to air later this year before Christmas.

"7 week shoot plus a bit of editing - probably out in the Autumn."

Co-creator Sam Bain also confirmed the shoot, tweeting: "Peep Show series 8 starts filming today. May God have mercy on our souls. And may @RealDMitchell & @arobertwebb break both their legs."

Bain and Jesse Armstrong stated back in January that they have no plans to end the show.

Robert Webb told Digital Spy last year that they will continue to make Peep Show as long as Channel 4 lets them.
