London 2012 recap day 8: Jessica Ennis, Mo Farah - pictures

By
It has long been billed as 'Super Saturday', but even the most optimistic of folk couldn't have imagined the goldrush that Team GB would bring to day eight of the Olympics.

The day got off to a phenomenal start when Sophie Hosking and Katherine Copeland won gold in the final of the lightweight women's double sculls. No sooner had they stepped out of the water than Andrew Triggs Hodge, Tom James, Pete Reed and Alex Gregory stepped in and were victorious in the men's four final.

At the women's team pursuit final at the Velodrome, Laura Trott, Dani King and Joanna Rowsell beat the USA to claim another gold medal for Team GB, while at Wimbledon, Andy Murray and Laura Robson booked themselves a place in the mixed doubles final.

Rounding off the day was 60 minutes of glory at the athletics track, as Jessica Ennis came first in the women's heptathlon, Greg Rutherford jumped to victory in the long jump and Mo Farah fought off some tough competition in the Men's 10,000m Final to take the third gold of the evening.
