'In with the Flynns' debuts modestly in new Friday 9.30pm slot

In with the Flynns kicked off its second series with a fairly modest audience on Friday night (August 17).

The Will Mellor sitcom pulled in 3.24 million (15.8%) for BBC One at 9.30pm, despite a lead-in of nearly 7m from a special edition of EastEnders.

Premiering in June last year, the show's first run started with 4.1m in its former 8.30pm pre-watershed slot on Thursday evenings.

While a repeat of Miranda garnered more attention - amusing 3.55m (16.4%) on the same channel at 8.30pm - In with the Flynns thrashed ITV1's Corrie Goes to Kenya (1.77m (8.4%), with 108k (0.6%) watching on +1).

Long-running current affairs strand Tonight logged 2.9m (13.1%) in its new Friday 8pm home, adding 146k (0.7%) on ITV1 +1.

Celebrity Big Brother attracted 1.69m (8%) to Channel 5 at 9pm (+1: 135k/0.8%) and 1.79m (9.4%) at 10pm (+1: 134k/1.1%), before Bit on the Side managed an impressive 1.06m (7.3%) from 10.30pm (+1: 101k/1.2%).

BBC Two's screening of The Boy with the Striped Pyjamas interested 1.84m (9.1%) between 9pm and 10.30pm. The channel's 8pm duo of Mastermind (1.84m/8.7%) and Gardeners' World (2m/9.2%) were also popular.

Meanwhile, Alan Carr's Summertime Specstacular enthralled 1.16m (6.1%) on Channel 4 from 9pm for over two hours, adding 174k (1.3%) on timeshift.

Overall, BBC One topped ITV1 in primetime with 21% versus 18% (+1: 0.6%). BBC Two earned third place with 7.6%, ahead of Channel 5's 5.7% (+1: 0.3%), and Channel 4's 4.8% (+1: 0.7%).
