BBC Two's acting controller of comedy commissioning Cheryl Taylor, and controller of BBC Two Roly Keating, have re-commissioned Lead Balloon for a second series.

The Open Mike production, which stars and is co-written by Jack Dee, saw its first series transfer from BBC Four to BBC Two after just three episodes.

Taylor said: "Jack Dee and Pete Sinclair have produced a beautifully observed comedy that has struck a chord with audiences and we are delighted it’s back for a second series."

The show sees Dee play a world-weary comedian called Rick Spleen. The new series begins filming next spring,

Roly Keating adds: "Lead Balloon proved a real hit with BBC Two viewers and I’m really pleased the next series will premiere on the channel."

Following its success, Lead Balloon's run has been increased from six to eight 30-minute episodes.
