Ross Kemp: 'Extreme World not about putting me in jeopardy'

Ross Kemp has insisted that his documentary series Extreme World is not simply about placing him in dangerous situations.

A second series of the Sky1 current affairs programme begins tomorrow night (September 3) at 9pm.

Kemp admitted to Digital Spy that some viewers may initially have watched his documentaries to see "a celebrity going through some jeopardy", but insisted that his output has since moved beyond that.

"It's not about that," he said. "I think there was an element of [that] when we first started making the Gangs programmes, but that was so long ago."

The actor-turned-journalist also revealed that he takes "an emotional hit" filming Extreme World.

"I was in a leper colony and... the things that I witnessed there, upset me a great deal," said Kemp.

"But I've been doing this now with Sky for nearly ten years, so I clearly enjoy it and I'm going to carry on doing it."
