Relaunched 'Daybreak' will go back to basics, says Lorraine Kelly

By
Lorraine Kelly has said that she intends for the relaunched Daybreak to go "back to basics".

Kelly will take over the ITV breakfast show with new co-host Aled Jones today (Monday, September 3) and explained to The Sun that the programme would not be subject to a complete overhaul.

"We're going back to basics. It's all about giving people the main news and showbiz of the day," Kelly explained. "We're bringing some of the fun back, not fun resulting from silly stunts, it's [about] having a sense of humour. But you don't want to change everything."

She also said that she was uncomfortable with the hype around big-name presenters such as former hosts Adrian Chiles and Christine Bleakley, adding that Daybreak should be "about the content".

Kelly also spoke highly of her new co-host Jones, saying that he had made her laugh during a screen test in Dundee earlier this year and noting that he is "very sharp and well-informed".

"He doesn't indulge in some kind of gladiatorial 'I'm cleverer than you' nonsense," Kelly added. "He gets on with it."

Kelly and Jones will also be joined by ex-5 News presenter Matt Barbet and Ranvir Singh, formerly of the BBC's North West Tonight, on the relaunched Daybreak.
