ITV's charity appeal Text Santa is to return for a second year.

The initiative launched last year with stars such as The Wanted, Harry Hill, Rupert Grint, Gary Barlow and Paul McCartney taking part.

A second live entertainment show will air on ITV1 on Friday, December 21, with "star guests, live performances and special mini episodes of ITV's biggest shows" all promised.

The aim of Text Santa is to raise awareness and money for a number of charities - this year's include Age UK, Anthony Nolan, Carers UK, Marie Curie Cancer Care, Together for Short Lives and Whizz-Kidz.

"Text Santa provides an exciting platform for our biggest shows, brightest talent, dedicated staff and of course our fantastic viewers to come together and embrace the true spirit of Christmas," said ITV's director of television Peter Fincham.

"Having raised just over £4m on its launch last year, I've no doubt that this year's great causes and the entertainment lineup we're planning will make Text Santa 2012 an even bigger success."

Viewers will be able to donate money throughout the campaign via text using JustTextGiving by Vodafone.
