Channel 4 has commissioned a television drama about the poisoning of the former Russian spy Alexander Litvinenko.
The programme is to be written and directed by Peter Kosminsky, who won two Baftas for The Government Inspector, his film about the death of scientist Dr. David Kelly.
A representative of Channel 4 said that Kosminsky had the "unique experience needed" to make the drama.
Liza Marshall, commissioning editor of Channel 4 drama, said of the project: "The extraordinary circumstances surrounding the death of Alexander Litvinenko are unprecedented in the UK and a focus of political and public attention."
Litvinenko died of radiation poisoning on November 23. The police have confirmed that they are treating it as murder.
