The BAFTA award-winning series, the latest of which gathers groups of singers from busy workplaces, entertained 2.37m (10.7%) on BBC Two and BBC HD in the 9pm hour.
'Sing While You Work', which will be six episodes long, launched with a higher audience than last year's three-part 'Military Wives' series.
Wartime Farm climbed to 2.53m (11.2%) an hour earlier in the 8pm slot, while Mock the Week maintained a steady 1.58m (8.4%), overall helping BBC Two to a healthy audience share for the night.
Despite not facing BBC One's Good Cop finale which was postponed following the murders of two policewomen in Manchester, ITV's The Bletchley Circle shed nearly 800k week-on-week - the mystery drama's third instalment had 3.48m (15.8%) and 291k (1.7%) on ITV1 +1.
Filling the 9pm hour for BBC One in Good Cop's place, repeats of Outnumbered and Have I Got News For You amused respective audiences of 2.47m (11.2%) and 1.75m (8%).
Liverpool and Tottenham's first Europa League games were popular on ITV4, with rolling coverage lasting a total of four hours averaging a huge 1.43m (7.1%) - peaking with over 2.2m at around 7.30pm for the conclusion of Liverpool's thrilling 5-3 victory over Young Boys.
Meanwhile on Channel 4, Location, Location, Location took 1.67m (7.4%) from 8pm (+1: 272k/1.2%), 1.08m (4.9%) watched The Audience at 9pm (+1: 212k/1.3%), and One Born Every Minute logged 1.32m (7.3%) at 10pm (+1: 209k/2.4%).
Elsewhere, Making Faces anchored Channel 5's schedule with 1.09m (4.9%) at 9pm, while 8pm's Heroes of the Skies attracted 822k (3.6%), and 670k (3.9%) tuned in to 10pm's True CSI.
Overall, BBC One led primetime with 16.8% versus ITV1's 15.8% (+1: 0.9%) ,with both big channels doing less well than usual. BBC Two earned third place with an impressive 9.2%, while ITV4 took fourth with 7.5%. Channel 4 followed with 3.7% (+1: 0.8%), and Channel 5 finished last with 3.7% (+1: 0.1%).
Celebrity Juice continued to impress on ITV2, amusing 1.33m (7.5%) at 10pm and adding 256k (2.8%) an hour later on +1. Russell Howard's stand-up was seen by 662k (3%) on BBC Three in the 9pm slot.
