ITV has commissioned a full series of Matthew Kelly serial killer drama Cold Blood, with Russell Brand among those reported to appear.

According to The Stage, the broadcaster has decided the show is to become a full series with guest stars including Coronation Street actor Bill Ward, Pauline Quirke, Phil Davis and Brand likely to play a part.

The drama will not be Brand's first acting role, having recently appeared in a new ITV1 comedy pilot The Abbey, which was set in a rehab clinic. It aired after the The Brits Awards last month, which Brand also presented.

The pilot of Cold Blood first aired in 2005, attracting favourable reviews and strong viewing figures, and saw Kelly starring as a serial killer who had murdered eight women and a child.

A follow-up episode is to air next month, with John Hannah returning as Kelly's ex-cellmate turned criminal psychologist and Jemma Redgrave playing detective Eve Granger.
