ITV goes for more 'Benidorm' and 'Primeval'
ITV1 announces that Primeval and Benidorm will be recommissioned.

A second series of Primeval, which is made by Impossible Pictures, will go into production later this year.

On the re-commission, executive producer Tim Haines said: “Impossible Pictures is incredibly proud of Primeval, and we’re over the moon that audiences share our passion. ITV’s continued support ensures that Cutter and his team will be back to save the world in the very near future, or past, depending on which side of an anomaly you’re on!”

Nick Elliott, director of network drama for ITV, said: “Primeval has had a wonderful response both from the public and from the press. We’ve opened up a new slot and a new family audience on Saturday night for ITV and the decision to recommission was not a tough one. We’re really looking forward to seeing Cutter and his team in action again.”

Paul Jackson’s first sitcom commission since returning to ITV as director of entertainment and comedy will be also be re-commissioned.

After peaking at almost six million viewers on its February 1 premiere this year, Benidorm, will start filming the first of eight new episodes later this year.

Paul said: “The decision was made after the fourth episode as it became apparent that the series maintained healthy ratings against some tough competition. I am thrilled; we had such a great cast involved and the writer Derren Litten is one of the finest comedy talents I’m come across in years. I’m very much looking forward to working with Tiger Apsect, Geoffrey Perkins and Sophie Clarke-Jervoise again when we make an extended series.”
