Monroe was watched by just over 3.5m last night, according to overnight data.

The ITV1 medical drama averaged 3.41m (15.5%) in the 9pm hour with a further 119k (0.7%) on timeshift.

Little England aired earlier to 2.91m (12.3%) and 118k (0.5%) on +1.

On BBC One, Panorama took 2.63m (11%) from 8.30pm and Richard Hammond's Miracles of Nature earned 3.76m (17.1%) afterwards.

BBC Two showed University Challenge (2.97m/12.7%), MasterChef: The Professionals (2.18m/9.2%) and Churchill's Desert War: The Road to El Alamein (1.74m/8.4%).

Elsewhere, Channel 4's Dispatches grabbed 862k (3.7%) and 113k (0.5%) on +1.

Food Unwrapped then took 929k (3.9%) and 139k (0.6%) on +1 before 999: What's Your Emergency? had 2.21m (10.1%) from 9pm (+1: 372k/2.3%).

8 Out of 10 Cats managed 1.23m (7.2%) from 10pm (+1: 202k/2.3%).

Lastly, Channel 5 showed The All New Gadget Show (1.09m/4.6%) and Revolver (915k/5%).

Overall, ITV1's 21.6% (+1: 0.7%) was enough to beat BBC One's 19.1%. BBC Two was in third with 8.4% ahead of Channel 4's 5.9% (+1: 0.9%) and Channel 5's 4.2% (+1: 0.2%).

On the multichannels, 8pm's Arrow episode 'Lone Gunmen' appealed to 700k (3%) on Sky1.
