Wife Tamzin Outhwaite gave birth to their second child in August, having already raised 4-year-old Florence. He is also a father to 7-year-old Nora from a previous relationship.
"Marnie is great. She has just started smiling," he told The Sun.
"We are very happy and enjoying every minute. For the time being I'm not sure what I am doing next year.
"But I am looking forward to putting all my energy into being a dad and filming Miranda."
Ellis explained that his latest role in BBC One's The Secret of Crickley Hall left him feeling drained, as it sees him playing a father whose son goes missing.
"At the heart of the piece is this family going through a very tragic time, so it was something that I really fancied doing," he said.
"But I didn't realise how much it would affect me. Because I was constantly playing out a scenario that was a real-life nightmare for any parent, I came home from filming with a really heavy heart."
Tom Ellis will appear in Miranda on BBC One later this year.
The Secret of Crickley Hall premieres on Sunday, November 18 on BBC One.
