Sky One has completed a deal with Reveille International to develop the US show Are You Smarter Than a Fifth Grader? for the UK market.

The hour-long show, originally created by Apprentice and Survivor producers Mark Burnett Productions, will be filmed in High-Definition.

Scheduled to air in the autumn, a total of seventy episodes are planned, with 20 in prime time slots, and 50 in daytime.

Richard Woolfe, director or programming at Sky One, said: "What's not to love about 10-year-olds gaining the intellectual high ground over nervous adults, fearing humiliation in front of a live studio audience? It's the perfect, twisted quiz show for Sky One. No one has managed to outsmart the 5th Graders yet in the US … will it be a different story when the show comes to the UK?"

The show, which pulled in over 26 million viewers when it first aired on Fox in the US in February, features contestants being asked eleven questions from the primary school syllabus. Questions are taken from different school years, and can be answered in any order, with each correct answer increasing their winnings.

Five children from Year 6 will play alongside the contestant, who will choose one child to be their ‘classmate’ to be consulted on their favourite topics.

Sky One are currently talking to a number of UK production companies to produce the series for the UK and have begun a search for a presenter to front the show. Sky One will also begin a nationwide search to cast the five children who will form the series’ classmates.

The show will be executive produced by Woolfe, Sky One's commissioning editor for entertainment Steve Jones, and Mark Burnett.
