The Geordie duo have taken home the prize for 11 consecutive years and will be aiming for a 12th on Wednesday night, but Johnson suggested that the pair could perhaps take a break from the NTAs in 2014.
"Ant and Dec definitely deserve all the awards that they've been picking up down the years. If the NTAs were coming from their peers and critics they'd be getting all the same awards as well, I reckon," Johnson told DS. "They're just the best at what they do.
"But come on guys, 11 years in a row. They should just win one more award, name it the Ant & Dec Award and let someone have a chance.
"Poor Dermot [O'Leary], he's incredible at what he does and he should probably get a chance, but he doesn't get a look in!"
Johnson and the This Morning team are hoping to win a third successive National TV Award this year, competing against The Chase, The Jeremy Kyle Show and Come Dine with Me for the 'Best Daytime' title.
"I think we were all really pleased to win the NTA for the first time two years ago and I actually promised to get naked on the show if we won that time and I stuck to my word," said Johnson. "And then we won again last year, which we were really surprised and shocked about."
"The NTAs are a massive night for This Morning. The whole team go down and I don't know if you've been to the studios, but there's a lot of us," he said.
"It's basically a late Christmas party for the This Morning guys. And then we have to make a show the next morning, which is obviously pretty interesting.
"After we won last year we all went to celebrate afterwards and Schofe was getting everyone drinks, Eamonn [Holmes] was, Holly [Willoughby]... everyone. Even I chipped in a fiver. Me and Gino [D'Acampo] just open the drinks and joined in the fun."
The Welsh TV presenter, who will be fronting the ITV magazine show's red carpet coverage at the awards, said that he was excited about catching up with fellow TV hosts Ant & Dec and Vernon Kay, and revealed that his dream interviews would be Mr Selfridge star Jeremy Piven and Ricky Gervais. He added that his picks to walk away with NTAs this year would be Downton Abbey and The X Factor.
Speaking about his dream TV roles in the future, Johnson said that he would love to bring back some classic entertainment shows or some Saturday morning kids' TV.
"I'd love to bring back some great Saturday night TV classics. I'd love to do Wheel of Fortune. Or Matt's House Party. I grew up with those sorts of shows and it's what made me want to get into TV," he said.
"Stuff like that and Strike It Rich and Strike It Lucky or You Bet! with Matthew Kelly."
One show Johnson insisted that he wouldn't be taking part in was Tom Daley's reality series Splash!, commenting that "nobody needs to see me in tight little Speedos just after Christmas".
"If you signed up for Splash!, you'd be sat down on Christmas Day, wondering whether you could have a second slice of Christmas cake or another round of Christmas dinner and then think, 'Oh no, I need to fit in those swim shorts'," he said. "And that is going to ruin Christmas!"
