Mrs Brown's Boys star Brendan O'Carroll has confirmed that a movie featuring Agnes Brown is in the works.

O'Carroll told reporters at the National Television Awards on Wednesday (January 23) that the project will begin shooting this autumn, and may be followed by a fourth series of Mrs Brown's Boys.

Brendan O'Carroll talks Mrs Brown's Boys The Movie:

"I always said from the very start it would be three series and that would be it, but it's been so successful and they're offering so much money," said O'Carroll.

"Once we do the movie this year - which we start shooting in September, it's called Mrs Brown D'Movie, and that should be released in June of next year to compete with the World Cup - once we've finished that, there may be a possibility of a fourth series."

O'Carroll revealed little else about Mrs Brown's big screen storyline, joking: "I haven't actually f**king written it yet! But it will be really funny."

He also said that he expected to be jaded by playing Agnes Brown after three TV series and years of stage shows portraying his foul-mouthed alter ego, and admitted that he fears boring people with the character.

"I certainly didn't think I'd be as fond of it after three series as I am," he explained. "I actually honestly thought I would be a bit tired and a bit fed up. And we just announced the live tour on December 2 and by Christmas Day, 250,000 tickets sold for us.

"With that kind of response you really do feel, 'I want to try', but I certainly don't want to get to the stage where we bore people."

Mrs Brown's Boys won the 'Situation Comedy' prize at the NTAs, adding to previous awards success including a BAFTA.
