Pop Idol: Aaron voted off

Aaron Bayley has become the third finalist voted off ITV1's talent series Pop Idol.

Aaron (above), Rosie and Laura were informed that they had received the fewest votes from viewers in favour of their performances of Burt Bacharach songs.

The train driver from Newcastle shrugged his shoulders on hearing the news. "Someone has got to go," he said. "If it hadn't been me, it would still have been upsetting as I'm very close to all the contestants now."

The 26-year-old, who sang a rendition of '24 Hours From Tulsa', insisted he was pleased with his performance. "I don't know what went wrong. I thought I did well - maybe the judge's comments went against me. It is a shame, but I won't give up. You won't see me in contests like this because I'll be too old soon, but I'm going to carry on. Being a pop star was my boyhood dream and now I've got this far, I can't turn back."

Next week, the remaining seven will perform movie soundtracks.
