Heaven and Earth has been axed by BBC One after nine years on the air as part of a revamp of the channel's Sunday morning religious output.
Two shows have been commissioned from independent producers to fill the slot. Heart and Soul, a multi-faith discussion programme featuring a panel and a studio audience, will begin broadcasting from various locations around the UK later this year. Life From The Loft from True North will broadcast from Bradford and examine faith, spirituality and morality in a magazine format with an "extensive multi-platform presence". It will follow Heart and Soul in 2008.
"We've taken the opportunity to introduce some brave new ideas to Sunday mornings on BBC One," said Jay Hunt, controller for daytime and early peak at the BBC. "Both are creatively strong and it will be fascinating to see what our audience thinks of them."
