Using a new system of spy cameras placed in remote-controlled robotic penguins, the broadcaster has been able to get closer to the creatures and make new observations about their lives.

The first episode 'The Journey' airs this evening (February 11) at 9pm on BBC One.

Footage will also follow rockhoppers, who tackle stormy seas, a 300-foot cliff and attacks from skuas and vultures.
