Samia Ghadie's 'Dancing on Ice' exit frozen out by 'Call the Midwife'

Samia Ghadie's elimination from Dancing on Ice was seen by more than 5m viewers on Sunday night, and The Only Way Is Essex returned for a new series with 1m viewers, according to the latest viewing data.

Some 5.14m (17.7%) viewers tuned in to ITV from 8.30pm to see the Coronation Street actress become the latest celebrity to leave Dancing on Ice.

But the programme's results show struggled against a new episode of Top Gear on BBC Two, which pulled in 4.14m (14.5%) in the 8pm hour and 1.07m on BBC HD, and it was soundly beaten by Call the Midwife, which was enjoyed by 8.63m (33.3%) on BBC One from 8pm.

The Only Way Is Essex returned to ITV2 for a new series on Sunday night, dazzling 908k (5%) on the digital channel from 10pm and 117k (1.2%) on +1.

Earlier on ITV, All Star Family Fortunes captured 5.01m (18.4%) from 7.45pm and 253k (0.9%) on +1. The main Dancing On Ice programme was seen by 6.25m (26.6%) between 6.15pm and 7.45pm, along with 203k (0.8%) on +1. Drama Mr Selfridge entertained 5.65m (22.2%) from 9pm and 515k (2.9%) on timeshift.

BBC One's Countryfile delighted 7.11m (28.5%) in the 7pm hour, and Ripper later grabbed 5.11m (20.1%) on the channel from 9pm.

Match of the Day 2 grabbed 2.42m (17.8%) viewers on BBC One, and then coverage of Swansea City's victory in the League Cup Final was seen by 980k (12.6%).

BBC Two's Wonders of Life pulled in 2.11m (8.4%) from 9pm and 282k (1.1%) on BBC HD. Drama Dancing on the Edge attracted 520k (3.1%) from 10pm.

Channel 4's Ottolenghi's Mediterranean Feast was devoured by 610k (2.4%) and 101k (0.4%) on timeshift, before A Great British Disaster gripped 930k (3.3%) and 196k (0.8%) on +1. A screening of Denzel Washington movie Unstoppable enthralled 1.98m (9%) and 466k (3.4%) on +1.

Over at Channel 5, Person of Interest captivated 727k (2.8%), and then a showing of Saw: The Final Chapter thrilled 605k (4.3%)

Talent show Got To Dance got 566.1k (2.5%) on Sky1 from 6pm.

Overall, BBC One scored a victory in primetime with 25.4% over ITV's 17.6%. BBC Two came next with 8.4%, followed by Channel 4 (5.4%) and Channel 5 (2.7%).
