"Russell will once again be offering up an insightful look at global goings-on and find his own uniquely upbeat angle on the news each week, from over 60 international news channels, 140 newspapers from around the world and over a thousand news clips," said producers.

"He and his Good News team will leave no stone left unturned in their pursuit of the strange and sublime stories that have been dominating the media over the past seven days."

As in previous series, each week Howard will be joined by a mystery guest who has featured in the news.

The show is filmed in front of a live studio audience and fans can submit news stories for inclusion in the show via the official BBC Good News Twitter feed.

Regular feature 'Headliners' also gives the public the chance to make a Good News front page.
