'Vicar of Dibley' to return for Comic Relief special with Damian Lewis

The Vicar of Dibley is to return to television for a one-off Comic Relief special.

Homeland star Damian Lewis will appear in the 10-minute sketch as a Reverend who charms Geraldine (Dawn French).

The special has been penned by Dibley creator Richard Curtis and will see Geraldine and her parishioners London-bound on a mission to save their church.

French said: "Viewers should watch this sketch because it's the first time we've been together for ages, so everyone can witness the rapid deterioration of us all!

"Since we last saw the Vicar and her parish members, the astonishing and shocking amount of decay is alarming."

Guest star Lewis added: "Richard Curtis has done a brilliant thing in getting all the cast back together. It's very funny and anyone who loves The Vicar of Dibley is just going to have a riot with this."

The Vicar of Dibley originally launched in 1994 and climaxed with a festive special on New Year's Day 2007.

The new special will air as part of Comic Relief's Red Nose Day night on Friday, March 15.
