Media Group looks at local stations

West 175 Media, the New Zealand based media company, is said to be in talks with a view to launching new local television channels within the UK, similar to the network of local channels it operates in it's native New Zealand.
The channels would be launched using the UHF bandwidth which was reserved for local channels. Rights to this bandwidth currently resided with the now defunct company VFG, who went into receivership last week.
Commenting on the plans, John McEwan, Chief Executive, said: "VFG didn't manage to make local television work, but we have a model that will make money. Local radio has been working in the UK, and there is no reason that television cannot be profitable as well."
The company also suggested that its channels would be made available on cable and satellite.
