"I'm so excited to be making a new series of Friday Night Dinner with such a fantastic cast once again," said series creator Robert Popper.

"I really could not be happier. Well I could, if say, I'd taught crows how to speak and they, in turn, taught me how to fly."

Nerys Evans, Deputy Head of Comedy at Channel 4, added: "We're thrilled we're going to be spending more Friday Nights with the Goodmans, and not forgetting Jim and Wilson too. Roberts's created such a brilliantly warm and funny world, and the cast are just sublime, we can't wait to join them for more Friday Night Dinners next year."

Friday Night Dinner has aired two series and a Christmas special since it launched in February 2011.

Mark Heap previously revealed to Digital Spy that a third run of episodes was "in the pipeline".

"We've got to make Robert sit down in his little shed and write," he joked. "They're a lovely bunch - I like watching the others very much. I like the show."

The new series of Friday Night Dinner will shoot in North London over the summer to transmit in 2014 on Channel 4.
