The first series of the revamped quiz - hosted by Stephen Mulhern - attracted solid ratings for ITV following its April launch, pulling in an average audience of 4.9m.

Mulhern will return for the new run, accompanied by animated sidekick Mr Chips.

"We were delighted with the first series of the new Catchphrase and we're delighted to welcome Stephen and Mr Chips back with another series," said ITV's Controller of Entertainment, John Kaye Kooper.

"We are hugely excited to be working on a second series of Catchphrase," added Gary Chippington, head of entertainment at production company STV Productions.

"[We] look forward to giving the audience another chance to 'say what they see' as they play along with Stephen, Mr Chips and our studio contestants."

Airing on Sunday nights, Catchphrase was paired with pensioner prank show Off Their Rockers - which was renewed by ITV last month.

Mulhern will also host new entertainment show Big Star's Little Star for ITV, in which celebrities team up with their own children to win money for charity.
