'Strictly' beats 'X Factor', 'Downton Abbey' on Sunday night

Strictly Come Dancing rose by exactly 1 million viewers from last week's results show to top the Sunday ratings, overnight data reveals.

Julien Macdonald's departure from the BBC One show attracted 9.42m and a 38.4% audience share at 7.15pm.

On ITV, The X Factor's second live results show of the series dropped around 600,000 from last week to 8.60m (32.9%) at 8pm, with an added 309k (1.2%) on +1.

Downton Abbey dipped by around 40k from last week to 8.86m (34.9%) at 9pm (373k/2.3%). Earlier, Surprise, Surprise entertained 3.87m (16.3%) at 7pm (218k/0.8%).

Later on BBC One, The Paradise returned for its second series with 5.17m (19.8%) at 8pm. This is over 400k higher than the first series finale back in November 2012. By Any Means rose by over 100k to 3.22m (12.6%) at 9pm.

On BBC Two, Dive WWII: Our Secret History interested 1.71m (6.6%) at 8pm, followed by The Ottomans with 1.01m (4.0%) at 9pm.

Channel 4's Bigfoot Files appealed to 1.68m (6.5%) at 8pm (391k/1.5%). Homeland also brought in 1.68m (6.6%) at 9pm (292k/1.8%).

On Channel 5, Nicolas Cage movie The Rock thrilled 1.15m (6.1%) at 9pm (123k/1.1%).

Karl Pilkington's Moaning of Life tickled 764k (4.4%) at 9pm. BBC Three's Family Guy peaked at 1.10m (5.5%) at 10pm.

On ITV2, The Xtra Factor attracted 602k (2.3%) at 9pm (100k/0.6%), followed by the latest TOWIE with 768k (4.4%) at 10pm (122k/1.3%).
