Strictly Come Dancing semi-final peaks with 10.61m viewers on BBC One

Strictly Come Dancing hit a peak audience of 10.61 million viewers during last night's (December 14) semi-final.

An average of 9.92 million viewers (42.8%) tuned in to see the five remaining couples perform two dances for a spot in next week's final.

It was immediately followed by Atlantis, which drew 4.2m viewers (17.8%) at 8.20pm. Approximately 3.69m (15.8%) stuck around to watch Casualty at 9.05pm, while 3.51m (2.7%) viewers tuned in to watch highlights from Arsenal vs. Manchester City on Match of the Day.

The first of a two-part X Factor final was ITV's highest-rated show on Saturday night. An average of 8.24m (34.9%) viewers watched the final three contestants battle it out for the grand prize.

Also on ITV, The Chase: Celebrity Special attracted an audience of 3.3m (14.3%) at 7pm, while 3.7m (20.2%) watched Will Ferrell on The Jonathan Ross Show at 10.05pm.

Over on BBC Two, Tron Legacy reeled in 910k (3.9%) viewers at 8pm, while 670k (3.4%) watched professor Brian Cox talk about The Science of Doctor Who at 9.55pm.

Channel 4's highest-rated show was Cornwall: Walking Through History, which drew 1.2m (5%) viewers at 8pm. The broadcaster's Psychopath Night, which explored mental illness, pulled in 1.05m (4.8%) viewers immediately after.

On Channel 5, episode three of The Bible was watched by 696k (3.2%) people, while 326k (3.7%) tuned in to watch Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves, starring Kevin Costner.

Ahead of the release of next week's sequel, BBC Three's broadcast of the original Anchorman drew an average audience of 733k (4.2%).
