Alan Davies is to host a brand new comedy chat show on Dave.

The QI star will lead the currently untitled project, which will see him talking about a variety of subjects at a round table with four other comics.

The series aims to recreate the relaxed atmosphere found backstage between comedians at stand-up gigs. It will be unscripted and unplanned, with Davies having just one fact about each guest.

Davies said: "I'm looking forward to sharing what makes comedians tick and bringing some of the banter from long car journeys, gigs or backstage in the dressing room to Dave's viewers."

Dave manager Steve North commented: "This is an exciting and audacious format that completely fits with Dave's promise to provide contemporary entertainment starring the finest comedy talent.

"The channel has just enjoyed its most successful 12 months to date, and I'm incredibly excited about the next 12 because we've got some cracking new commissions coming to viewers' screens soon."

The series is expected to air on Dave in the summer, and will be filmed in front an audience. The five-part series will feature a mixture of 'A list' stars and up-and-coming personalities.

UKTV Commissioning Editor Iain Coyle added: "Any comic will tell you the funniest place at a comedy club is not on stage, or in the audience, but in the green room or dressing room, where comics are totally relaxed. There you get a different type of funny - spontaneous and very Dave."

Alan Davies currently hosts Winter Olympics series Apres-Ski on BBC Two, and will return to Jonathan Creek on BBC One on February 28.
