Alan Davies on new Jonathan Creek: 'He's ditched the duffle coat'

Alan Davies has promised a more mature Jonathan Creek in the new series.

The BBC One comedy-drama returns for its first full series in 10 years tonight, with an older Creek having ditched his famous duffle coat.

"The duffle coat is on the costume rail but it hasn't been brought out for any scenes," Davies told Digital Spy and others on set. "Who wears the same duffle coat for 17 years?"

The new three-part Jonathan Creek series - written by creator David Renwick - will see the amateur detective team up with his wife Polly (Sarah Alexander) to solve mysteries.

"David wanted to write about a married couple - he wanted to write ongoing serious relationships," Davies explained.

His co-star Alexander added: "First of all, Polly is not keen but she soon gets drawn into it all. Some of the mysteries are very personal to her - especially the first episode.

"There are people from her childhood [involved] so she is part of it, she is part of the puzzle."

Jonathan Creek returns to BBC One tonight (February 28) at 9pm.
