The IT Crowd, Southcliffe lead BAFTA Television Awards nominations

Southcliffe and The IT Crowd lead this year's Arqiva BAFTA Television Awards nominations.

Channel 4's bleak drama and cult sitcom both received four nods each, while the channel itself received a record total of 27 nominations.

Southcliffe is nominated in the Mini-Series category, while its stars Sean Harris (Leading Actor), Rory Kinnear (Supporting Actor) and Shirley Henderson (Supporting Actress) are also up for BAFTAs.

The IT Crowd is eligible in the Situation Comedy Category - alongside another Graham Linehan creation Count Arthur Strong, plus Toast of London and Him & Her: The Wedding.

The recently-concluded comedy's stars Katherine Parkinson, Chris O'Dowd and Richard Ayoade have also all been nominated in their respective categories.

Broadchurch and The Village both received three nominations each.

ITV's whodunnit has been recognised in the following categories: Drama Series, Leading Actress (Olivia Colman) and Supporting Actor (David Bradley).

Peter Moffat's BBC One drama is nominated in the same categories, with Maxine Peake facing Colman and Nico Mirallegro up against Bradley.

Jerome Flynn - also up for Supporting Actor for his role in BBC One's Ripper Street - is among this year's first-time nominees.

Rory Kinnear and Nico Mirallegro are also first-timers, as are Leading Actor nominees Sean Harris, Jamie Dornan (The Fall) and Luke Newberry (In The Flesh).

This year's Arqiva BAFTA Television Awards ceremony will be held in London on Sunday, May 18.
