Leeds to become MTV city
Published Monday, Apr 3 2000, 00:00 BST | By Neil Wilkes
Leeds will be turned into the first UK MTV City later this month, when the world-famous music channel arrives en masse in the city over the Easter Weekend.
The Live At Leeds city takeover will see MTV host three parties in Leeds over two weekends, as the phenomenally successful Dance Floor Chart, brand:new and The Lick events all roll into town. MTV will also be broadcasting a two hour show from the city centre for three days over the Easter period.
MTV presenters Donna Air and Richard Blackwood will present the nation's favourite music request show Select MTV live from the Fudge Bar on Good Friday, Easter Saturday and Easter Sunday. As well as taking requests from the crowds outside the venue, Donna and Richard will have all the usual mix of competitions and top secret pop guests! So if you want to see yourself on live TV, just come down to the Fudge Bar over Easter Weekend!
The MTV Dancefloor Chart brings one of the best DJ line-ups around to the Majestyk in Leeds on Sunday April 23. Hosted by MTV's Dancefloor Diva, June Sarpong, the night features DJ sets from Erick Morillo, Graeme Park and guests, plus a special PA from Funkstar Deluxe featuring Terry Max.
brand:new, hosted by MTV UK's Zane Lowe, introduces probably the best hot British music bill to be seen in Leeds this year. Coming from the Town & Country on Sunday April 23, the exclusive MTV line-up will be headlined by Death In Vegas, whose gigs with Primal Scream have been selling out across the country. Support comes from the critically acclaimed Asian Dub Foundation, plus a unique DJ set from Soulwax's The Flying Dewaele Brothers.
The Lick, the renowned MTV R&B show fronted by Trevor Nelson and presented in association with Sega Dreamcast, hits Leeds on Sunday April 30, at the Majestyk. Upstairs in the R&B room will be Trevor himself, plus Dodge and guests, while the old school room will feature the likes of Umberto and Soul Master Hazzy, plus a live set from top British soul talent Lynden David Hall.
