Over 40 live games will be screened as Pay-Per-View events from next year, it was announced yesterday evening. Richard Scudamore, Premier league chairman, gave details of seven new contracts following a meeting with the chairmen of each of the 20 clubs in the Premier league.
Contract one is for 66 games, to be played on Sunday afternoons and Monday evenings, with highlights on Sunday mornings.
The second is a pay-per-view deal for 40 games, for which viewers can buy season tickets.
Deal three is a highlights programme, to be transmitted on Saturdays. This has been reserved for terrestrial television, where it is expected that the BBC, ITV and Channel 5 will bid.
Contract four is a Sunday highlights programme, also for terrestrial television.
The fifth package is for club-run channels, such as MUTV, who can screen their clubs matches several days after mainstream transmission.
Deal six is aimed at internet websites, and the final contract involves TV rights for VOD and mobile phone companies.
