Kim Cattrall has been lined up to play opposite Harry Potter star Daniel Radcliffe in a new film for ITV.

Cattrall will play Caroline Kipling in My Boy Jack, in which Daniel Radcliffe will play her son, Jack Kipling. Radcliffe, in his first TV drama since the Harry Potter films, stars alongside the film’s writer David Haig, who plays Jack's father, the writer Rudyard Kipling.

Haig also played Kipling in his stage play version of the story at the Hampstead Theatre. The two-hour single drama from Ecosse Films will be filmed in Dublin during the summer.

Controller of drama at ITV, Laura Mackie, said: "Having won the heart of millions as Sex and The City’s Samantha Jones, it’s a real thrill to welcome Kim Cattrall onto ITV1. The part of Caroline Kipling will see her in a completely different role, and illustrates our commitment to bold and inventive casting."

Set during World War One, My Boy Jack will tell the true story of how Kipling used his influence to get 17-year-old Jack a commission with the Irish Guards despite his son’s poor eyesight. Jack went missing in action and his mother and father carried out an ardent search for him, spanning many years.
