Peaky Blinders series 2 teaser: 'Time to make some real money'

By
Cillian Murphy has featured in a new teaser trailer for Peaky Blinders series two.

The Irish actor returns as gang leader Tommy in the BBC Two period drama set in 1920s post-war Birmingham.

The forthcoming series will see the Shelby family expand their crime empire, while maintaining control over their Birmingham heartland.

Helen McCrory, Sam Neill, Paul Anderson, Sophie Rundle and Joe Cole will return for the second series alongside Noah Taylor and Charlotte Riley.

Tom Hardy will appear in a guest role during the second series, with co-star Sophie Rundle describing him as "amazing" to Digital Spy earlier this year.

Creator Steven Knight said of the new series: "It's getting bigger, it's getting richer and as a result of that it's getting more dangerous. The gang are entering areas of even greater jeopardy.

"And anyone like Tommy who is so good at what he does will attract dangerous people and he has to use his skills and his wits to survive. They don't leave Birmingham, they stay centred there, but they expand the business into other areas."

Murphy added: "We reached a point in series one where the Peaky Blinders' empire expanded beyond where the family was when Tommy became the de facto leader.

"Now the next target is London, moving south and encountering more obstacles…trying to go legitimate but constantly being pulled back down in that criminal world, and that pull-and-push is the really exciting dramatic element of it."

Peaky Blinders will return on BBC Two in the autumn.
