The RDF-produced reality show, which ends its current series this Sunday, has been a quiet success for the broadcaster, almost doubling C4's average audience in the key 16-34 demographic.
The sixth series - filming this autumn, to air from January - will run for 30 one-hour episodes, up from 21 for the current series.
"We can’t wait to start casting next year's Shipwreckers," said exec producer Tania Alexander. "We can expect some exciting new twists and turns in Battle of the Islands 2008!"
