Community Channel takes 'Charge'
Published Wednesday, Jun 13 2007, 10:30 BST | By Joanne Oatts
The Community Channel is launching a new digital interactive space for young people to encourage them to 'take action.'
Funded by the youth volunteering charity v and the Vodafone UK Foundation through the charity's Match Fund, Charge aims to target 16-25 year-olds with content on the issues and interests that are relevant to them.
Launching on June 30, the project includes a specially commissioned one-off documentary Summit About The Boy. It follows 22-year-old Lee, who comes from a deprived area of Birmingham, as he is sent to Germany to report on the G8 summit for The Times.
The programme has been made by Media Trust as part of their Youth Mentoring initiative which links disadvantaged young people to media professionals, and is funded by the Department for Culture, Media and Sport.
Adam Perry, Community Channel, head of programmes, said: "The Charge G8 special is an excellent introduction to viewers of what Charge is all about. Ranging from socially engaging content to favourite bands, mobile-filmed content to short films, Charge will be the You Tube with a conscience."
A website www.chargetv.co.uk, which includes a blog by Lee about his experiences, will sit along side a one-hour weekly special which will air on the Community Channel at 6.00pm and 10.00pm throughout the week from June 30.
