Others taking part in Tiswas Reunited include Sally James and Lenny Henry.
Ahead of its screening on Saturday Tarrant talked about looking back on the series.
"I was very interested in doing a reunion show, so I made some calls," he explained. "Everybody said, `Yeah, why not?'
"In hindsight, it's quite easy to see why it would succeed. We didn't think about pushing forward the barriers of children's television.
"It just seemed to me that there didn't seem to be any children on children's television, whereas with Tiswas there were thousands of them, all running around and tripping over and screaming and shouting."
He described the re-run, scheduled for 9.15pm on ITV, as "a hugely evocative, nostalgic night, with a load of laughs".
