'Britain's Got Talent' winner announced
Mobile phone salesman Paul Potts has become the first winner of Britain's Got Talent.

The 36-year-old sang his way to victory by singing a series of opera tunes, receiving a standing ovation from the live studio audience for his performance of Puccini's 'Nessum Dorma'.

Potts, who beat six-year-old Connie Talbot to the top spot, told the judges how performing for the Queen meant "absolutely everything" to him.

He said: "I cannot believe it at all, I'm like jelly. Thank you for believing in me, it is absolutely bonkers."

Judge Simon Cowell said: "I'm so proud of you. Next week you are going to be in a recording studio making your debut album."

Piers Morgan told Potts that he was exactly the kind of winner the show needed, saying: "You deserve it. I can't think of anybody better to represent this show."

In addition to performing in front of the Queen at the Royal Variety Performance, Paul Potts picked up winnings of £100,000.
